Will SMCM continue to fund the Governor's Cup race?

Read an article in the Washington Post (joke newspaper in my opinion [not really]) about the possibility that SMCM may stop funding the Governor's Cup race.  The school loses like 18,000$ on it yearly (however I feel like the race also results in a lot of donations).

In the article, Jurgo states that "No one thinks it's appropriate that we spend education funds on it."  I'd like to go on the record right now to say that I think we should spend education funds on all sorts of random stuff like boat races and hot air balloon races and building statues of famous people.  The President's statement is now incorrect, seeing as I do think it's appropriate (okay but not really; he brings up a good point).

It seems like the River Concert series breaks even, which is good.  I still haven't attended this event, but probably will this year.  Jurgo said that he doesn't think it's in danger of being cut.

So really the only thing that seems likely to die is Slackwater.  I don't really know what this is to be honest.  Some journal thing.  I don't know how to read so I have never read it.

Would be pretty lame is the governor's cup died.  My Dad raced in it the past two years and got trophies which are actually small cups which I assume are for drinking rum, which makes them better than real trophies.  The race has been going on for a few decades, and it's a pretty cute idea/race.

Dunno.  Kinda doubt that like Muldoon (who has a legit-ass racing boat in the race) would let it die even though he isn't on the Board anymore (or maybe he is and just isn't the head of it).

SMCMLOL: Year in Review

Let us, dear readers, take a journey into this past year re: this bloggin blog.

2010 marked the first year that I made enough $ from ads to get paid.  I got a pretty check from GOOGLE for 100$ which I promptly spent on Rikaloff probably.

Okay but lets look at some analytics and numbers and stats because I want to BORE YOU ALL.

THE BIG PICTURE (click for bigger duh)
Of note is that flatline from July 30th to August 26th.  This was when I done goofed and for some reason it wasn't recording stats.  But it doesn't matter because it was the summer and no one reads then anyway (except for that big spike in the middle).

Anyway, according to Google there were 49,919 visits (will probably break 50,000 by end of the year maybes) and 94,000 page views.

MORE INFO
Most visitors were from the United States, but people from all over read the blog (via study abroad I imagine).  Oxford kids were the second biggest readership, then Canada (what the fuck???  Paul Lemley???)  and then the Gambia and then Italy.  Alba kids, you disappoint me!  And at #10 was Czech Republic....Sam Rockler??  And all of Argentina was probably Sam White.

Anyways, compared to 2009, (however I have to note that recording did not begin in 2009 until the end of February) there was a huge increase!  Like +250%!  Here is a picture showing that (click for bigger).  Blue is 2010, Green is 2009.

Interesting data.  What is also interesting is that the same pattern of decreased readership on the weekends is consistent (admittedly I don't generally update on the weekends) for both years.

Anyway thank you for reading!  What does the future hold (hint:  future may be bleak...)?

UPDATE: Flannel still lost...still crying

Still don't know where my flannel is.  Also misplaced my peacoat somehow...not sure where it is...le sigh.

Here is a poster that my future wife/current fake cousin Elizabeth Benge (via Benge and Benjes are NEARLY THE SAME) made for me regarding the lost flannel.

As you can see it's a very good diagram, she told me it took her many hours in Photoshop.

Jurgo's Shape Ups

Word on the street is that Jurgo and Lurgo wear Shape Ups, the sketchers sneakers that GET YOU FIT (via walking)

Don't really understand why they are curved/round like that, feels like it would take a lot longer to walk as a result.  Anyway, it would appear new president is in favor of being healthy (vs. being in favor of drinking lots of wine....) which is good.

Or is it?  Can we really trust someone who is going to take short cuts like these 'shoes' to get fit?  Where will other short cuts lay?  Are we going to get boats with curved/round hulls??? (probably yes since I think most boats have round hulls).  Will future buildings be curved on the bottom, thus making them sway back and forth (okay this is just silly/absurd).

Not really sure if these shoes are all that stylish, but I think the hats/suits will counter the negative effects of these shoes regarding that matter.

Christmas Light Safety

Realling digging this email Polly Miller sent out nearly a month ago about christmas lights and not dying.  But pulling at cord of lights is one of my favorite things, even though she recommends not doing it.  Also I like leaving lights on when I go to sleep because I am pretty sure they keep monsters away.

Login is generally student ID number
Password is generally Abcd#### wherein #=last 4 digits of your SS.

EDIT:  Forgot to mention that this won't work for young people.  Definitely not first years, probably not sophomores, but everyone else should be okay.

RIP Harry Potter

It would appear that St. Mary's College for witchcraft and wizardry has lost a notable staff member, Mr. Harry Potter.  Mr. Potter was the former food service manager apparently.  Also a wizard I would imagine.  I really like his style.  Credit goes to Ben Casto for finding this in the alumni letter.

More Food!

I went to a really small diner with my dad this morning.

BREAK IS EXCITING

Madrigals Dinner

Attended my first, and probably last, donor's dinner.  The yearly Madrigals event was really nice.  Ben and I arrived around 6:10 and made our way to the open bar.  They had top shelf liquor!  And Heineken!  I didn't realize liquor could taste so good.

So then we went to our table.  We sat with Amir Reda and some alums from like 98' and 01'.  I don't really recall their names, but I think I had met the one guy before at a Buildings and Grounds committee meeting. Anyway, I talked to the guy next to me about the Townhouses, and how they didn't call it The Greens, and how there was no Hallowgreens, and how he was around for the riot.  It was really great!  I am really excited to go to alumni weekends and talk to old people about this stuff.

Also there were singers!  I didn't really understand what they were singing, but then at the end they sang Christmas songs which I could comprehend.  Larry Vote looked real baller moving his hands around like a maestro.  Kristina Schiller tells me she had a solo, which I am not sure I realized because I couldn't really see much from my table, and her singing voice is probably a lot different from her talking voice.

Apparently Madrigal is a type of voicey music.  THE MORE YOU KNOW....

Oh also there was this guy with a lot of war medals, he had graduated in 79', and we were all wondering what the giant medal cross+crown on his tie was.  Then like 10 minutes later Jurgo actually asks him what it meant, and I think I eavesdropped that it meant that if he were British he would have been A KNIGHT!!!  That guy is probably the most ballin' alumni that the college has produced.

Okay that is about it.  Oh also I think Ben and I were probably the only guys without suits.  We opted for the sweater over buttondown combo.  We also opted to wear the same outfits that we wore to a cocktail party last week.  WE'RE COOOOOOOOL.

Winter Break

Exams are over, people have left, etc.  I'm still in St. Mary's County though!  I got invited to the Madrigals dinner (for donors or somesuch) and I invited Ben Casto to attend with me.  There is an open bar!  And seafood!

So I probably will not be updating here much.

But if you are bored you can read my other blog, www.deconstructinglego.com

It's about Lego and kinda funny/weird...read the entry about the City House.

Speaking of Lego, if you have lego from you childhood you should give/sell it to me.

Have a great break!

Midnight Breakfast

Went to it this eve.  Usually don't go, but figured I would go tonight.

PROS:

  • Jurgo wore a santa hat
    • He also like my hat which said 'ho ho ho'
      • I wore this hat a lot during the summer and it confused people
  • Biscuits and Gravy
    • oh my god yesss
  • Those things that are like swirly and have icing...I am blanking on the name....
  • I saw lots of bubbles
    • Which reminds me of the guy Bubbles from The Wire, which I think I will watch again over winter break
CONS:
  • No donuts :/
  • No Santa
  • Karaoke (while being sober)
EVERYBODY, DON'T FAIL YOUR FINALS PLZ

EDIT:  A lot of people seem upset at the lack of donuts and overall displeased, I dunno I felt like it was pretty great.

Text Book Buy-Back

Heard from my roommate that you get more money from the buy-back if you got a good grade in the class.  lol.

Also, is anyone taking Astronomy next semester, I would like to sell you the Starry Night Book and CD.

Lost Cell Phone

Those emails annoy me, but I'm oddly okay with the one that the housekeeping lady lost.  Hope she finds it.

Jurgo Radio

Finally listened today, the interview with Kyle Jernigan.  I have class usually so I can never listen live.  Feel like someone more important, like the writer of a very influential blog should be on the show rather than some guy who just 'edits' a newspaper.  Don't really know what a newspaper is to be honest, are those like flyers that you see up around campus?

Really diggin the music, reminds me of playing Fallout 3 (via 1950s music).

Kyle says that he does not brag about the newspaper and is very humble about it.  Feel like he is doing this wrong.  If I were Kyle I would probably use my position to obtain bribes and such.  I know that I sometimes run bloggery posts here about events that people ask me to write about, and I generally charge a bribe of one beer.  Feel like if I ran a paper I could charge possibly two or even three beers per bribe.  Or maybe even cash!

Feel like old people are really good at choosing music that goes well with the guest that is being intereviewed (via this Ray Charles song about the news).

Kinda liked this most recent issue because my name is on the front page (via sponsoring bike shop legislation).

Wow Jurgo just tried to imply that Danny 5 Names is not as pretty as the dance show...gonna have to disagree.

Some discussion of going off the record.  I would like to say that off the record I enjoy the point news, but on the record I think it is pure terrorism.

Jurgo is playing a song called "Lies" by the Knickerbockers.  Pretty sure he played this because he feels that The Point News is full of lies, which I'm pretty sure is true.

Thank goodness he is finally playing some Gaga.  Glad to hear that Jurgo don't want no paper gangsta.

Kyle reported google analytics hits of 100 on slow days and as much as much as 400 on fast days.  Gonna check out our numbers and compare.

They are talking about grapevines and rumors.  I personally love grapevine rumors as well as spreading them.

RUMOR:  Is Kyle Jernigan a robot?  Did he lose weight via hard work or through a transformation into a CYBORG?!?!

Good episode overall, I will rate it 8/10.

Holiday Dinner at Great Room

Pretty sure it's in honor of my birthday!

Birthday!

Today is my birthday!  I like my birthday a good deal.  My good friend Ben Casto bought me a fifth of Evan Williams Honey Whiskey, which we shall consume in great merriment this eve!

Also I will probably be going to the Door!  See yall there?

Wish saferide was running...le sigh...hopefully will not have to walk/crawl home.

Multiverse

In astronomy, topic of the lecture is the 'multiverse'.  Not sure if he is talking about the DC Comics Multiverse or not, but I'm guessing he isn't.

FREE PIZZA ALERT SO MANY

PANIC SO MUCH FREE PIZZA OH MY GOD

  • Do yall want to spend the next decade of your life super stressed out and go to med school?  Head to the Glendening Annex at noon on Friday!
  • MATH CLUB, the coolest most popular club on campus, is hosting a movie night wherein they will watch THE OXFORD MURDERS.  Dunno what that is, but I am anti-murder because murder is a form of terrorism.  It's at 8 in the library 321!

Course Evals

Do them!  I really liked the email Jurgo sent out.  I like when teachers give extra credit for doing course evals because then you get extra credit!

Also I kinda like UMD's system.  When you complete your course eval, you can view the course evals for other courses and professors to see what other people thought of them, and make your class choices based on that.

Student Committee on Mold

Do yall like mold?  Do yall like committees?  Come join this legit-ass committee known as the Student Mold Committee, wherein we will compile facts about the mold crisis and highlight student contributions.  We would be compiling a document, created by students affected by the mold situation, to present to the campus community and to the administration.

So we are looking for students interested in sitting on the committee and compiling the document.

But also students who wish to submit testimonials, stories, photos, etc. regarding the mold situation.

If you wish to be a part of this please contact me smcmstudent@gmail.com.  If you wish to leave anonymous testimonial and comments, feel free to leave a comment.

We need student input to prevent this from happening again.

Bicycles on Campus

UPDATE 5PM:  He sent out another email clarifying, he wants all bikes removed by winter break so that they can get rid of the broken/abandoned bikes.  Awesome!

Santiago just sent out an email regarding bicycles on Campus which I will repost below

I hope that this e-mail finds you well and winding down the semester. As you prepare for Finals, I want to make a quick announcement about bicycles. I am currently working on creating more bicycle storage (racks, etc.) on various places on campus and in an effort to do that I would like to make a request of you. If you have a bicycle on campus and it is secured to something other than a bike rack (i.e. a bench, a tree, a fence, a log, etc.), please remove it and either secure it to an outdoor bike rack or the bike rooms provided in your residence halls. Any bikes that are left elsewhere will be considered abandoned and removed from where they are. I thank you for your assistance and attention in this matter, and look forward to some bicycle safety programs during the Spring semester.
Fuck that.  There are no where near enough bicycle racks, they would need to triple the number of racks, and there aren't enough areas to place them that are aesthetically pleasing.  Have you ever seen the campus center/library at night?  There are dozens of them everywhere!  The bike rooms in residence halls are always full of bikes that no one ever uses, and the racks outside are also generally full.

I feel like this is something that was initiated without any input from the campus community (and if there was then he failed to mention it).  Additionally, people can't use the designated bike areas if there is not enough room, so I feel like they should implement these new bike storage areas first before making a request like this.

Lastly, I think a bigger issue is bikes that are left on campus and never use, or that are locked up and broken.

Snow!

It snowed last night!  I saw someone's status and thought it was a dumb joke and went back downstairs to continue watching Sex and the City with roommates but then later I decided to look outside and it was indeed snowing!

Victims of Warfare Teach-In

Going to this, I may post a write-up

Movember Update

Check out this photo of the Movember participants!  Also check out my new flannel...still looking for old flannel *TEAR* *CRYING*

This Weekend's Movie

This weekend's movie is I N C E P T I O N!  What a great film.  I saw it in theaters with my roommate over the summer and then downloaded it over break and have watched it a few times since as a result.  Would be cool to see in a theater again.

It's not nearly as much of a mindfuck like Nolan's other film Memento but it's still real great and confusing and wonderful!

Movember

Went to the Movember Mustache competition last night.  Had to run away from the SGA meeting for a bit so Frank McGough took over for me.  I was awarded 'Best Dali' (as in Salvador Dali the artist, did not realize he had a mustache, but it is very curly).  I got two 10s, a 9 and an 8 from the judges, so I was pretty happy with my performance.  Sam Eckert won overall with his great Tom Selleck stache.

Gonna tell mom that she can't hate on my facial hair anymore via winning a major award.

Monty Hall, Go there Tomorrow

So several people have cryptically told me that I should go to Monty tomorrow...kinda excited/scared

RIP Brian Van Parys Car

Saw his car getting towed earlier, sad about this.  Poor BVP :[

Brian Tennyson

Saw Brian Tennyson a bit ago on my way to work.  He was coming out of the Health Center with a Bag of Drugs.  Guess he is sick, which is unfortunate.

My issue was that he was wearing shorts!  It is kind of cold outside right now, and I don't think wearing shorts will help him with his sickness.

This photo displays shorts similar to the ones he was wearing, except that he was not a werewolf when I saw him (potentially this is related to his sickness, maybe he was getting anti-werewolf drugs from the Health Center???  Is Brian Team Jacob???).

Webmail was down

So email wasn't working earlier today for a bit. This is the email they sent out:

Good afternoon
We are currently having issues with accessing webmail from mobilenet, the residence halls and from off campus. We are working to correct the problem and will notify you of any updates.
We apologize for the inconvenience.
CTSS
Pretty standard, but I have a few issues with it
1)  How were we supposed to see an email about our email not working if our email wasn't working?
2)  If email was not accessible from mobilenet, residence halls, or from off campus, where was it available from?  I'm assuming nowhere, so why not just say that it wasn't available at all...
3)  Everyone should use Gmail

That is all.

Mr. SMC

Mr. SMC is back!  Excited that Danny, Cody Brack and Cory Young are all nominated.  Hope that I helped to get Cory Young nominated (via exposure).  Be sure to check out this event!

Not sure who I want to win.  All three are very pretty and strong, which are two necessary qualities.  Cody is the tallest though so maybe he should win.  He is also probably the best drinker of the three.

Stolen Flannel

Someone grabbed my flannel at the Nest two weeks ago.  This is me wearing said flannel.  I would like it back.  I am offering a reward of several dollars!  The tag inside says 'Woolrich'.  This is my favorite flannel and I would like it back.  If you see anyone wearing it you should probably punch them up.

Srsly someone return it :/

Maryland Basketball

Went to the Maryland Basketball game on Friday, lot of fun.  Feel like we should incorporate some of their stuff into our games like

  • Reading newspapers when they announce the other team, I found this funny
  • Yelling Asshole a lot, would be fun but kinda goes against the mood that you generally find at our basketball games
  • Jumping, we need to jump more
  • Student section should be the good seats!
  • Oh my god they have a jumbotron!
  • Their cheerleaders throw t shirts into the crowd, I love shirts!
Also I saw Skidd there!

Just a rumor, lets see if it's true.

Great Room Hatin'

Hatin' may be the wrong term, but there's an interesting event on The Facebook (lol, Katy Arnett ironically calls it this and I giggle a lot when she does, I think my Mom unironically says it thought) regarding the quality of the Great Room http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=166205076746283&index=1

Interesting comments, didn't know there was so much anger.  Feel like I kinda failed as Chair of the Food Services Committee last year (but not really, we tried several times to meet with them but it was difficult due to changing management etc., but new dude seems real receptive to feedback!) by not realizing this stuff.

Goddamit I just miss chicken patties.  I understand that they are not locally made, but that is some of the most delicious 600 calorie (yes, srsly 600 calories, you could look it up on their website.  This explains why it was sooooooo good) piece of meat in existence.

So, dear readers, what do you think about the great room?  Kinda feel like maybe quality has gone down a bit, or at least selection, but the school has also been cash-strapped (via economy) so I don't really blame them.  Just glad people are upset at the Great Room as an institution, and not the people (although that weekday omelet guy always seemed upset at me for some reason).

Regardless, I think I'm gonna opt out of a meal plan next semester.  So much cheaper just cooking for myself.

Pancake Dinner!

It's today!  5$ for unlimited pancakes at the church thingy nearby.  Not really sure how I feel about pancakes though to be honest.  I think I only like really small ones, and I don't really like syrup that much.  But fruit preserves taste great on them!

I helped disburse food once at a pancake dinner here...I think in my Sophomore year.  It was fun and I got free pancakes!

Burlesque Workshop

Not sure how I feel about this.  Mostly because it's only for girls.  Feel like it should be open to all.  Also, feel like Burlesque refers to the entirety of Vaudeville including comedic acts and circusy performances, not just the erotic strip teaseyness.

Either way, should be an interesting event or whatever!

Vote for Slyfoxed!

Slyfoxed is a campus band that graduated this past may, they are all pretty cool.  They are trying to win a contest or somesuch, maybe for a record deal??  Currently they are in 3rd place!  So vote for them!

Vote here http://getoutofthegarage.sonicbids.com/BandDetails.aspx?b=23448&bn=Slyfoxed  wooo

PS the band members are attractive

Midnight Munchies Friday Night!!!

Tri Beta (NERDSSSSSSS [I think they are the Biology honors society] ) will be selling delicious foodstuffs Friday night from 9PM-12:30AM.  There will be GRILLED CHEESE and DONUTS and HOT CHOCOLATE.

ALL FOR ONLY ONE DOLLAR EACH OH MY GOD

They will be located on the LQ partio!

Now that fourloko has been banned, this will be a good way to eat away your sadness.

Plastic Bag Race

Seniors won the plastic bag race, which isn't surprising since a lot of us buy groceries which come with plastic bags.  We currently have two full drawers.  Kinda happy that Class of 2013 had negative bags lol.

This Weekend's Movie

This weekend's movie is Eat, Pray, Love.  That is all.

SGA Meeting 11/16/2010

SGA Meeting!  As you know, I now 'chair' the meetings and call on people to speak so I can't liveblog.

Early in the meeting Alex Walls made some noise near a trashcan while someone was presenting.  This has been your daily dose of something silly that Alex did.  <3 u Alex.

We passed some boring stuff regarding GSMRF.  Boring but probably important.

We also passed a resolution supporting faster INTERNET instead of more wireless.  Radical.

Additionally, we allocated $15,000 to keep the bike shop running for three more semesters, at which point hopefully the school will start funding it, or we will try to raise student fees in order to pay for the cost.  I need to go there today and get air in my tires!

Were you negatively affected by mold and feel like the school didn't care enough?  An ad-hoc committee is being formed to ensure that school administrators realize the full extent of the mold problem, as some students (like myself and the President) felt like these issues were glossed over in meetings with administrators.

In more exciting news, Programs Board is planning on having AN ICE RINK when we come back in January.  This would be cool, even though I have never gone ice skating.  I live on the water and when the ice freezes I like to go out on it and slide around, eventually falling on my buttocks.

That is about all for this week!

Basketball wins!

How exciting!  I was not able to attend the game due to SGA, but we did get occasional updates from Kelly Schroeder and President Perkins.  Kinda disappointed that we didn't win with 69 points (via everyone that lives in my house is obsessed with this number).

Seahawk Basketball!

First game tonight against Hopkins.  Expect to hear chants of 'SAFETY SCHOOL' (via Hopkins is a difficult school to get into so it's sarcastic).  Should be exciting!  Make it out to the game if you can!

7:30 in the ARC!

Seahawk Basketball!

First game tonight against Hopkins.  Expect to hear chants of 'SAFETY SCHOOL' (via Hopkins is a difficult school to get into so it's sarcastic).  Should be exciting!  Make it out to the game if you can!

This Class

I believe it divided into group two groups, that of note takers and that of do homework for other classes.  I have slowly moved from group one to group two over the course of the semester.

Also just learned that exam is this Thursday and not next Tuesday which is awesome because I was planning on going to a show Monday night and would not have been in a good state for said exam.

Monday, November 15, 2010

Matt Smith

In class, Matt Smith just said that Kaiser Wilhelm started World War II.  We all laughed and he quickly corrected himself (via that dude started World War I).

7 Wonders T Shirt

Yall check out this shirt that is for sale. Dunno who sells it though. Kinda remember people selling it at the end of last semester, but also saw Kristina Schiller looking sad/bored/sober selling them at Hawktoberfest.

Don’t really like black shirts to be honest. Also kinda confused by the whole Frisbee golf aspect of the shirt, don’t really know anyone that has played a Frisbee golf course using the 7 wonders of St. Mary’s. Seems like an okay shirt though. I will rate it ‘I would buy it for 5$’.

Fall 2011 Classes

Went on portal today (because roommates told me that we all got 25$ credited to our accounts for some reason...not sure why but probably gonna spend it on more swag at the school store) and saw that there is a link for tentative Fall 2011 classes...feel like they are trying to taunt me and the fact that I will be graduated by then.  Is there a way they can not put that on there?

They should have it just not show up for seniors.  :[

The Nest

Apparently some UMD kids were sexing it up (via coitus) in the laundry room during The Nest this past weekend.

Not sure if this is really weird or totally baller.  Probably the former.

Just heard from Nick Bruno that the Door has NFL network and will be showing the Raven's game tonight!

SGA Meeting 11/9/2010

UPDATE:  Also, someone mentioned Kohlers, and there were a lot of blank stares and confusion, and instantly every senior felt incredibly old.

Went to SGA last night, just like every week.  Kinda upset that SGA always makes me miss intramural sports, le sigh.

Alex Walls sat in the back by himself, kinda wish he sat up front more, miss him.

George Waggoner of CTSS came back to see what people thought of the wireless in dorms vs. increase speed debate.  Increasing speed won by a large margin, so there will probably be more put into increasing the speed of the Internet than increasing wireless access points in dorms.  This is cool because it won't take me 5 minutes to download a PDF woo.

I announced that in one month I will be 22.  Feeling old.  Birthday is on a Thursday which is cool, but also no SafeRide that week...le sigh.

Oh and I reported that I went to the Buildings and Grounds committee on Friday.  Got to sit next to Michael P. O'Brien (dude who has his name on the ARC).  He just went by Mike though.  He likes to make jokes.  He also didn't understand that there is an established Frisbee Golf course, which led to one of his jokes being really confusing.  I think he thought that we just throw our discs at random trash on the ground or something.  Dunno really.  But it was a cool meeting!

We also all read suggestions that were placed in the suggestion box on monday as a part of Care for your Campus week.  I read one that said "Jurgo needs a longer beard".  Dunno how I feel about this, his beard right now is quite elegant and well trimmed, not sure if I want him to get some sort of dwarf/santa beard (dwarf as in a LOTR dwarf obv)

Dr. Meckel = House

I was at Faculty Senate last week and saw a professor who I believed looked like Dr. House from popular television program ‘House’. Here is a photo of him from the website ‘www.smcm.edu’.

Looked more like House IRL. Wonder if anyone has ever asked him if he is Hugh Laurie.

Britain

Some kids in the library are using the phrase "on the daily."  Not really sure what it means but I like it.  Apparently it's a British term.  Not sure how I feel about British phrases (via can we really trust Britain, they used to own us).  Probably gonna start using this term though.

University

Since we have the MAT program granting postgraduate education (via wikipedia defining a University as have undergrad and postgrad stuffs).

Electric Bill

What were yalls electric bills?  51.87 here.  Dunno if that is a lot or a little.  Don't feel like we used a lot of electricity.

Schedule

Got my last class schedule done.  I was supposed to register last Wednesday, but I was really indecisive and only signed up for like two classes.  But now I've got it all figured out, should be an interesting semester.  Three classes related to my major, Lifeguarding, Yoga, and retaking Chinese 102 because I've forgotten everything.  Does anyone know how pass/fail works, that sounds fun.

Laundry Machines

Seems like laundry machines are going to start working again via needing to 'swipe' to use them.  Kinda lame, really enjoyed just being able to press go.  Especially when doing the dryers because they make you wait like 10 seconds staring at 'dryer will run for 60 minutes' for some reason.

Even worse was years ago when it showed your account balance.  Laundry lol.  I did laundry yesterday btw.

Why is the Nest on a Thursday this week?

I don't get it, aren't these usually on Fridays?  Feel like this will make kids want to hang out and party/dance on Thursday.

Parallax Shits

Chucky Adler has 'Parallax Shits' on his powerpoint (instead of shifts).  Everyone laughed of course.

Charles LOLlar

Roommate Mike Tornabene said that he saw a Charles Lollar ad on my bloggery blog (via he doesn't use AdBlock).  He took a photo!

Wonder what caused his ads to pop up on my blog.  Don't really remember mentioning him or anything.

One Card

Ughhhh has anyone seen my one card??

Boy Scouts

Met some Boy Scouts in my house on Hallowgreens, proceeded to flash them my Eagle Scout card, they seemed impressed.

Hallowgreens Proof Your House!

Fellow Greens Residents!!  Good chance a lot of people will be checking out your house, so take time to get it ready.

  • Clean up!  No one likes messy houses
  • Remove breakables/valuables!  No one likes stuff getting broken/taken
  • Get a mop!  Probably gonna end up with a muddy floor, which leads to
  • Remove rugs/place more rugs!  Rugs will get muddy, but maybe better than floor getting muddy??
  • Buy alcohol (for distribution to older people!)
    • I think my house is doing that thing where you get a 30pack and a handle and country time lemonade mix and THROW IT ALL TOGETHER and it somehow doesn't taste horrible.
    • I wanted to mix Rikki and food coloring but everyone else thought that this was a horrible horrible idea
      • They are probably correct
  • Buy candy (for distribution to young people!)
    • REESES CUPS
  • Decorate!  Kinda want to put gravestones on the portico
  • Kinda thinking of locking back door + doors to rooms
  • Clean up the outside the next day!
Wonder who invented Hallowgreens...someone provide details

Ahh memories.  I remember my first Hallowgreens.  Here is a cool video from 2006 Hallowgreens http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0L3hMJKLP18 which has a Pyramid, which I think was also made in 2007?  I'm pretty sure I saw one during my first Hallowgreens.  I dressed up as The Dude from Lebowski.  I think it was one of my first times on the Greens, and I was overwhelmed, it was just absurd and great.  Miss being a clueless first year sometimes.

Couch Creatures

The school often uses this image of the Couch Creatures in promotional stuff, but kinda annoyed that the group hasn't existed for a few years (I don't think it's been a thing since I've been here).  I mean, people take blankets to games and sit on the track, but I haven't seen a huge gathering with couches and 'couch creatures' shirts ever, other than this photo (photo being the one in the upper right, you probably saw it at some point during the admissions process).

Or maybe I'm wrong, can anyone confirm deny?  I've only been to about a dozen games on the Varsity Field so I could be wrong.

Twilight this Weekend

Twilight this weekend, exciting.  Really diggin the poster Programs Board made for it.

Also Ally Moore pointed out that it was signed

"Sponsored by Programs Board and Team Edward"

I lolled a lot.  But then I was upset because
SMCMLOL IS TEAM JACOB

Costumes

What are yall thinking about being for Hallowgreens?

I was thinking of being a Western Villain/trainrobber (via curly diabolical mustache).

Gonna have

  • Top hat
  • Fancy Dress attire
  • Cigars
  • Bag with money sign on it
  • Rope (for tying biddies to train tracks!)
  • Monocle (if I can figure out how to smelt sand into glass)
  • A GUN
Should be a fun costume I think.  Thoughts?  What are yall gonna be?

Rock the Hizzbot

My teacher just said this

No one understands

Public Safety Clery Report

Public Safety recently released their annual Clery report, which I don't know much about other than that it has lots of cool statistics.  Interesting excerpt from the part of the report that discussed Public Safety policies.
"The Director of Public Safety regularly reviews police logs and reports from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office to monitor off-campus student behavior and refers those reports to both the Dean of Students and the Office of Student Conduct."
Interesting, thoughts?
Incidents can also be reported via a confidential “Silent Witness” web form.”  They used via, which makes me happy.
Interesting data from the report:
No homicide, yay!
Liquor law violations are going down.  2007 – 179, 2008 – 122, 2009 – 102.  Clearly my class (which came here in 2007) was the best/most caught drinkers.

Cory Young Update

He is currently sporting a mohawk.  It is pretty sweet looking.

That is all.

SGA Meeting 10/19/2010

SGA Meeting last Tuesday.  Fun stuff.

Beginning of the meeting Alex Walls was eating a banana which was very alluring (via phallic objects)

Dean Bayless said via at one point which made me happy

Becky White said 'full frontal' at one point which was great

Alex Walls also said piggybacking at one point, which he hasn't done in a long time.  Long time readers will know that Alex Walls says piggybacking a lot at meetings.  Hopefully he will more often.

Lecture: O’Malley & Ehrlich ROUND TWO

Went to the Thursday lecture titled “The O'Malley/Ehrlich Rematch and Maryland Political History” given by Professor Ted Sheckels.  Really great lecture, talked about the political history of Maryland over the past few decades (which he was involved with at various points) and the patterns that have emerged in Maryland politics.  Talked about how Mikulski is ‘Our Barb’ (via her name is Barbara) and everyone loves her and is really representative of Maryland (via still living in highlandtown and being a hon) which is why she always gets reelected.
Anyways back to the election, his main analysis was that it’ll come down to whoever can win Baltimore County, and to a lesser extent Harford and northern Anne Arrundel.  I like his analysis since I am from the great Baltimore County.  It’s a weird place because it definitely is very politically divided throughout the county in different areas (via people tear down O’Malley signs where I live [le sigh] but are all over the northern areas of the county).

Sheckels was a real cool guy, wish he taught here.  Really cool that he’s actually an English professor, but just worked on a lot of campaigns in the 70s and is into Maryland politics.

Internet Speed Increase Delayed, RAGE!

WHAT THE HELL IS A TRUNK LINE.  WHY ARE TEHRE NO TRUNK LINES.  I WANT A TRUNK LINE.

Ughhhh Verizon, you sluts, why must you do this to us.  Is this how the conversation went?

"herp derp, hello smcm, it appears that we forgot to install those trunk lines(wtf are these) that we told you were ready half a year ago!  sry bro.  u mad?"
This is just dumb.

Okay so I use 'The Google' to figure out what a trunk line is.  It would appear, from my understanding, that there was supposed to be a line going from Collie Park to Lexington, the (tree) trunk line, which would branch out (via how trees branch out) to us an other dudes.  But Verizon forgot/didn't install said tree.

I just want to be able to download youtubes/musics/pornographies/articles for class/kittens inspired by kittens/movies more quicklies.

Googol

Professor is writing a Googol on the board right now...not really sure why (ps it's like 1 and then 100 zeroes)

Class of 2011 Crab Feast

Went to the crab feast, fun times. I set up the music for the event, which was fun and exciting, people told me they really enjoyed the music. Dr. Urgo’s house was real cool and a really nice piece of property. He has a pier, but no boat yet. Feel like he should get a submarine and submarine his way onto campus secretly. He could dock it in St. John’s Pond and then pop out of nowhere. Seems like a pretty solid idea to me.

Anyways, the crabs were great, and the whole thing was really well organized. The cleanup was cool too, and even Jurgo helped which I thought was really cool, like that he doesn’t see himself as being above throwing trash away and such. Just real chill. I went home with some extra crabs and spent a few hours picking them and then made crab cakes! They turned out quite well, I was very impressed with myself.

Ken’s crab cake recipe!
• Some crab meat
• Toast a slice of bread and turn it into bread crumbs
• Some mustard
• Some Mayo
• Some parsley
• Old Bay!
• An egg

Mix these up in a bowl with your hands, then form into some patties. Fry in olive oil until golden brown. Dry off the grease with some paper towels. Enjoy! Crab cakes always taste really good chilled.

PANIC! Ghosts in the Library

Heard rumors the other day as you may remember (via reading old bloggery posts) that I heard rumors of a….ghost in the library.  Turns out these rumors are full of truth!

I commissioned Dave Corderman and (Hurricane) Katrina Rigby to capture a photo of this mysterious entity, and they were very successful.  It appears that the ghost is saying “!OOB”.  Not really sure what OOB means, maybe it is some foreign ghost language.  Also of note are two bats above the ghost…not sure how I feel about bats in the library, feel like they are not very conducive for studying.  Hopefully library staff can train these bats to return books after they have been checked out, that would be kinda cool.
PS has anyone seen the discus man?  Seems like he disappeared as soon as this ghost appeared…maybe the ghost killed discuss man?  Can ghosts kill?  Should we…PANIC!?

PANIC Sewage Spill

The water treatment building at the end of the Greens (near the KUDZU [more PANIC on that later] plants) exploded (or possibly just sprung a leak) leaking out 50,000 gallons of RAW SEWAGE.

As a result the waterfront is kinda closed to all recreational use, since touching the water could result in

  • Becoming a Teenage (or young adult) Mutant Ninja Turtle
  • Zombification
  • Illness
  • Superpowers
  • Becoming a mutant (via X-Men)
  • Becoming a mutant (via other kinds of mutants)
  • Infertility
  • Death
  • PANICing
Errbody should probably avoid the water for awhile.

Saw this as someone's status update this morning, but couldn't find any info via googling.  I was wondering what those trucks that were around on Monday were though, but now I know I guess.

Glad this happened when it was cold out and not 'hang out in the water weather'.

Happy Feet

A girl in class has a penguin from Happy Feet as her computer background.  I approve.

Facebook Group Chat

So someone on SMUT discovered facebook group chat last night, and it is amazing.  Reminds me of middle school AIM chat rooms.  Someone should make one for SMCM and just invite everyone and it would be absurd/great/horrible.

For uninitiated, it creates a group chat with lots of people.  Dunno what the limit is.  Kinda interesting though.

FREE PIZZA ALERT 10/20

Okay it's not pizza but rather metal water bottles.  Tomorrow there will be a screening of the film TAPPED (which is about water bottles and tap water and tapping out during wrestling matches) wherein the first 100 dudes will be given..................A METAL WATER BOTTLE.
The movie is at 8PM on Wednesday 10/20 in Cole Cinema.

h8u plastic water bottles.  I squeeze and you collapse on yourself...what a weakling...feel like I need a manly (via gendernorms) metal water bottle that won't collapse under the 'pressure'

Frankie Muniz

Programs Board got to meet Frankie Muniz.  Fucking jealous.

Cory Young

Finally met him this past weekend, it was glorious.  He thought I would be taller.  Le sigh, felt bad to disappoint him (via being 5'6").

Internet

Someone just told me they thought our Internet was fast.  Felt I needed to share this nonsense.

Mooning

I was walking to a car on Friday to go to Chipotle (via burritos) and some dudes in an SUV (via shitty gas mileage) asked me for help, and then as I turned they mooned me.  Well just the dude in the back, the other guy and the driver did not.

His Buttocks was very pale, as they often are, and thankfully not hairy (via I don't like hairy buttz)

Saturday, October 16, 2010

Midnight Soccer

Dunno if yall can see this, but it's an email conversation with the dude that sends out midnight soccer emails.  He said he was sorry for sending out so many, and apparently he is!  Just wanted to double check.

Female Orgasm

Went to the Female Orgasm presentation thing (dunno what to call it really).  Dunno if I learned much but I think it set out really positive vibes about sexuality and bodies, I had a great time.  Also yelled 'oh yeah' at one point (via the people on stage asked if the audience liked orgasms or somesuch) but did not realize I was so loud and promptly ducked to avoid the wave of stares.

Also it was really packed, like I had to stand the whole time, which wasn't a big deal but kinda wish we had larger venues on campus for those sorts of things.  But the acoustics were great so w/e.

Faculty Senate

Dude here at Faculty Senate looks like Dr. House but not quite attractive.  Which, is totally fine because this dude is a professor and not an actor.  Short hair, glasses, thick mustache and stubblely face.

Maybe Hugh Laurie is a professor here.

GHOSTS

Apparently there is a GHOST in the library.  The discus man has been dressed up as a ghost.  Can someone take a photo of him for me, I will buy you a gord from the Daily Grind.

I realize that it is impossible to take photos of ghosts, but since this is a fake ghost it may work.

Speaking of ghosts, did anyone play ghost in the graveyard as a kid?  Feel like that would be a real fun game to play on the greens.

Rules:  One kid runs away and hides as the ghost.  The other kids stay at based and count from 1 oclock to midnight.  Then they go look for the ghost.  When someone spots the ghost they yell PANIC GHOST IN THE GRAVEYARD then run away to base as the ghost tries to get someone.

Really Really Free Market

Do yall like 'free' stuff?  On October 20th there will be a Free Market on the Campus Center Patio!

Before that though, you need to start donating stuff that you don't want (like books, clothes, dildoes, xboxes, etc) to the free market.  There should be Blue Boxes (via they are blue) in your laundry room where you can drop this stuff off.  It's a good way to get rid of stuff you don't want anymore!

After people have donated stuff to the free market, show up at the Campus Center Patio on the 20th during lunch to get free stuff!  Woah cool.

Also there will be music put on by Hawk Radio, and Bike Shop should be there doing cool stuff.

Think I might donate some shirts that I have but don't want anymore.

Kinda prefer this to other free markets (via capitalism).  So show up yalls.

MOLD IS GONE

MOLD IS GONE

4 Cups

Some kid here in the library has 4 cups of coffee.  Wat.

He is never gonna sleep (via caffeine)

UPDATE:  Some girl just asked the kid for his sweater because she was cold.  He declined because he had nothing on underneath.  Also the girl was wearing a really light tanktop. Dunno what she was thinking going into the library w/o full winter gear on, it's always freezing in here.

PANIC LARGE BOAT INVADING CAMPUS

There is a large wooden boat in the water right now, like gigantic.  It is outside the river center, parked (via anchors) in the water a quarter mile from shore.  Dunno what its deal is, feel like it is gonna invade though.

Talked to Paul Sauchelli about it, he said something about it being a bunch of Jews trying to show that Jewish tribes can live together.  Don't really understand via don't know much about Jews/tribes.  Kinda worried that they are gonna invade though.

UPDATE:  Caitlin Cromer has some information about it
innnnn reality this was actually a replica of small leisure ship from the late 1800's, the peacemaker.
Fascinating.  Luv leisure ships because they are less likely to invade.  Also here is a high quality photo

5 WEEKENDS PANIC

PANIC. THERE ARE 5 WEEKENDS THIS MONTH. ACCORDING TO RELIABLE SOURCES (VIA ALLISON TETA) THERE ARE 5 WEEKENDS THIS MONTH, APPARENTLY THIS ONLY HAPPENS ONCE EVERY 800 YEARS. Dunno if I believe that...I cannot 'belize' it (via puns also my roommate went there over the summer and we make this joke a lot).

miss u all

Goodie P Fire Alarms going off

Getting ready to go to the door, hear the Goodie P alarms going off...wonder what is up, maybe another Mercury spill (via Nick Bruno). Wonder what the dealio is bros.

Glad townhouse fire alarms never go off...dunno if we even have a switch really...glad we dont.

Writing this from Heather Johnston's computer...love her...want to marry her one day

College Website Survey

Whatup yalls.  Do you like Surveys?  Check out this 'totally rad' survey about our school website that Web Services made.

I am an intern with Web Services, so that's why I'm plugging this survey (also boss asked me to and it is a good idea to do what they say).  It was sent out in an email earlier today, so if you already completed it please don't again.  Try to leave some constructive criticism, it only takes a few minutes and will be really useful for improving the website (which we really do spend a lot of time discussing and brainstorming about).

ps the survey is open to all students, faculty, staff, and mold.

FREE PIZZA ALERT 10/7

Do yall like pizza...and GARBAGE???  Habitat for Humanity is hosting a screening of GARBAGE WARRIOR a movie about some hippie who make houses out of...garbage!

LQ REC ROOM 8PM
As you can see, it is PERTINENT (via the quote at the top of the poster)!!!

Woah check out this hippie
Take a shower!!??

Wish I could take a shower (via my bathroom is currently missing all of it's tiles/floor due to mold/mushrooms...le sigh)

Event is hosted by...habitat for humanity!  They love people!!!

Bullying

Don't yall.  Also, in regards to that email, you are supposed to use 'hanged' instead of hung (via grammar).

Also, really liked those emails, felt that they were well thought-out and necessary.

SGA Meeting 10/5/10

SGA Meeting!  Some highlights

  • Jurgo came to talk to us!  He brought up issues like campus pub, Aemthyst initiative (dunno how to spell it, don't care), and the size of the college
    • Is the college size right now too big, too small, or just right??
    • How do yall feel about changing drinking age to 18
  • Also brought up this idea of 'dry orientation' wherein everyone signs a pledge to not drink during the first weekend of Orientation.  Interesting idea, what do yall think of it?  Feel like it takes a lot of pressure/fear away from first years who don't know much about drinking, but also feel like I want to hang and drink with friends the first day back, most of whom I haven't seen in months.
  • Alex Walls said 'Debbie Downer' and how he doesn't want to be one
  • Kyle McGrath said 'the gorilla in the room' instead of 'the elephant in the room' and we all corrected him and kinda laughed at him.  Although '800 pound gorilla in the room' is a phrase, it has a different context/meaning (via wikipediaing it)
  • Oh also said that, in regards to paying for stuff at a campus pub, there would probably not a be a 'drinking plan' (via meal plans) which made a me lol a lot.  Actually a drinking plan would be sweet via can limit it to only let you purchase so much.
  • Also I yelled at senators a lot for speaking out of turn.  Feel like I am training a puppy to not pee on the ground (andrew reighart being one of the main puppies)

MOLD PANIC

Lot of yall (especially on the Greens) have probably heard about the mold epidemic.  Mold be sporing everybody up in here (via that bedroom intruder autotune youtube sensation).  Mold invaded Boone 4 and forced them all to move out (dunno where to, maybe they are living under a bridge like a troll, or hopefully just crashing on a friend's couch) and maintenance/other dudes have been working on it nonstop for days.

These townhouses were constructed in 1992 as I recall, kinda lame that they are succumbing to MOLD.  Low bid contracting FTW.

Also just heard that Maggie 8/7 (the one on top) with Ally Moore has mold.  Probably some other places have mold.  Was anyone else freaked out by that lady wearing the mask coming into everyone's home like....should I also be wearing a mask (via protection)???

Hope I don't have to move out, it is getting cold and I would not have much time to construct a log cabin/hobbit hole in North Woods.

Some of the mold appears to have been caused by shoddy HVAC construction practices, but I don't know much about HVAC to be honest, just kinda looked like that via pipes that did not reach holes, but rather leaked onto the floor of the HVAC closet.

Will mold turn us into zombies?  Kinda hope not, enjoy eating burritos and not people.

Guess mold isn't all bad though, via making beer and cheese, two glorious inventions.

PANIC.

Beer

Just wanted to recommend that everyone try Sam Adams Octoberfest while it's still available (via only for the rest of the month or so I think).  It's easily one of their best brews and just really great and oh my god I love the fall

FREE PIZZA ALERT 10/5

INTERNSHIPS.  PIZZA.  PRESENTATIONS.  Only one of these three things are great (pizza duh) but you can get all three tomorrow in the Glendening Annex at NOON.  CDC talking about internships.

Friend Mark Snyder currently has an internship, he seems to enjoy it (via sitting in an office all day).  I have on of those on-campus internships and it is pretty cool (via also sitting in an office but not all day).

Have a class at noon...might leave for a few minutes to get a pizza...should I walk back into class w/pizza, inspiring jealousy and fear (maybe?) in the hearts of my classmates?

Cell Phones and Driving...a PSA

Just so yall know, starting October 1st (as in several days ago) it is illegal in MD (where most readers are currently residing) to use a cell phone to either text or talk or play games etc [EDIT:  WHILE DRIVING].

The whole driving thing was in the main title, but I forgot to include it in the actual paragraph...I am a dumb

Bamboo Boat Race RESULTS

Did yall see the bamboo boat race?  I didn't :/, was playing ultimate vs alums (via they beat us 15-13 le sigh).

Some 'professors' won this year, math dudes like Dave Kung and another one.  Feel like they cheated via understanding concepts such a 'buoyancy' and 'geometry'.  Real surprised Nut didn't win this year, kinda sad about that tbh.

One team was named 'binary solo' I think that is a reference to some popular culture, maybe a movie or comic, dunno.  David's team was No Doutt, which I don't get.  Like I get the No Doubt reference, but what is a Doutt?  Maybe I am just dumbs.

EDIT:  Binary Solo is from that show 'conchords that fly w/kiwis'

Woah Nate Hesse, real original w/ 'windsurfing club'.

Hahah okay but Sam Eckert's 'Bambooty' made me laugh.

I think David Johnson came in second place, and apparently came in first in every race except the last heat. Kinda lame but w/e, he still got a big fake cheque.

Thanks to Loheed for sending me the list of participants!

Revenue

Yall may have noticed 'advertisements' on the bloggery blog.  Been there awhile, but Googley ads only pay out after you have accrued 100$ in revenue
Dunno how well yall can read the image above but it says '100$ in revenue'

Woahhz, thanks yall for reading (via getting me money)
