Foot Bridge Tabling

Last Thursday and today (also Thursday!) I sat at a table telling people about the proposed footbridge. Maybe you even saw me! It was pretty exciting. I sat there with this guy whose name I always forget but he likes to hang out with Iben, and Nathan Bossie who was standing near the table harassing people.

I feel really bad about forgetting his name because he is really nice but I feel like I learned his name several months ago and have not heard his name since. Also Nathan did an excellent job of getting people to do the survey while the super nice kid and I sat there watching. We were much more interested in eating lunch.

A lot of people didn't like the idea of the footbridge, but hopefully they looked at the other alternatives. Improved lighting, better road signage, and other complicated methods could be used to help motorists realize that they need to slow down and stop for pedestrians. Whatever happens, I'm glad that the students were able to have an impact on the project by voicing their opinions.

Also I got a SGA cone/megaphone thing. Alternatively it can be used as a funnel! The super nice kid and I sat around using them as trumpets while Nathan got people to fill out the survey. I think we are not very good tablers, but excellent cone trumpet players.

SGA Publicity Committee Meeting

Yesterday I went to Iben Ricket's house with John Campbell and a new girl Sam White. Sam is a freshman from QA and she seemed pretty average. John of course talked about SafeRide a lot. Iben had Double Stuffed Oreos and Tostitos Scoops and Salsa. I fucking love Scoops so much, like I get offended if I am at a party with chips and salsa and the chips are not scoops. I just can't deal with real corn chips anymore after having the ease of scoops. Also she said that she got Double Stuffed Oreos so that she did not look cheap, but John and I were too busy eating them to listen to what she was saying. Oreos are so good, but I haven't had them in a long time.

Moving on, we discussed a few topics like SGA giving out frisbees wit the SGA logo. Speaking of the logo, Publicity Committee is trying to make an SGA logo, but none of us are good at logo design so we are planning on having a contest with 50$ gift card to whoever makes the logo we like the most.

Also we talked about these plywood cubes that UNC has. I don't have any pictures, but imagine a 8x3 foot sheet of plywood. Now imagine four of them put together into a cube. Students and clubs can paint things on these, like advertisements for club events or whatever they want. I think it's a pretty sweet idea, and gives the students an opportunity to express themselves creatively. Radical!

SGA Meeting 1/27/09

No SGA meeting tonight due to the snow/ice etc. This made me kinda sad :[

But I did write up a piece of legislation! It states that the SGA wants all of the clubs to create club websites that are hosted by smcm. This past semester Kait Hines worked with various club leaders to create club websites, but so far there are only a half dozen or so. You can find them here.

Snow Day

Snow Day

Why are you reading a blog it's a snow day!

Edit: I didn't know it was snowing until my Mac told me, hence the image. Can you guess what the background of the image is?

My Senatorial Profile

Apparently the SGA website has profiles of all the Senators and other SGA members. Mine is of course the one in the photo. You can find the full list here. I enjoyed the fact that they spelled "sophomore" wrong. People forget the "o" in the middle a lot. I imagine next year when I am no longer a sophomore I too will forget how to spell it. I think my reason for involvement in the SGA is pretty excellent. Wednesday I have a meeting with Iben Ricket about SGA Publicity which should be exciting.

Crab Pizza

The Great Room offers many types of pizza, from the obvious cheese and pepperoni, to much rarer flavors such as the bacon cheeseburger pizza and the elusive buffalo chicken pizza (my favorite from Kohlers, I have seen this three times total in the Great Room). This morning at brunch I saw something which must be the rarest pizza of all...crab pizza. It appeared to have some sort of snow crab topping on the pizza, cut into small circles, almost like a cut-up raddish. The crab was plentiful too, with over a dozen pieces on each slice. It was truly an amazing dish. I felt honored to have been able to try it. I made the picture in MS Paint, it took several hous.

A Tom Seahawk Christmas

Last Semester I helped my residents decorate the hallway for the holidays. It was a lot of fun, and we made a Christmas tree and a Festivus Pole. Here you can see a whole album of festivities! I meant to put this up awhile ago but I was busy sleeping over Winter Break. It was a pretty exciting event.

St. James Historic Site

Some of you may not recognize the photo in this post, or even realize that it is in fact on campus. This is the entrance to the new St. James Historic Site. The building opened sometime in 2008, I think during the fall maybe? It's a pretty cool place with a really nice architectural aesthetics and a lot of information about St. Mary's City. It's open until 5 PM most days so you should definitely check it out.

The Responsibilities of an RA

Sometimes being an RA I have to do difficult things. Like moving a thong from underneath the water fountain in my hallway to Chris Rodkey's doorknob. I used a plastic shovel of course.

Sitting in the RA office

I am sitting in the RA office. A guy and a girl with arms around each others shoulders just came in. The girl's crotch was....wet. I only saw her from behind, and the butt part of her crotch was wet. I am assuming that the frontal/vaginal part of her crotch was also wet. I am very confused by this. I know who the guy is but I'd rather not put his name here because it would be kinda embarrassing.

More SMCM Blogs

I've talked about blogs by other SMCMers before, but there are more!

One of my favorite blogs ever is Marlena Weiss's. It's just called marlenasblog. It's on tumblr like a lot of other people's blogs. I just like blogspot a lot because it uses the same login as Gmail. She updates everyday, which is an amazing feat, and they are usually short and about interesting topics. Also she is from Baltimore and legit and hard etc.

If you want blogs that are pretty much hipster trash then look no further than Sam Rockler!

I like the Olszewski blog, sometimes the posts are inside jokes etc. which are pretty fun, and sometimes just random thoughts.

Rockler blog has a lot of quotes and hipster photos. It's pretty nice and I really enjoy the overall asthetics.

Marlena's wins because I can imagine reading hers daily even if I didn't know who she was. But they are all pretty interesting and different.

More Classes + Thoughts

Europe: Age of Absolutism with Adams. She seems cool. Too many books though

Child in America with Angela Johnson. I am super stoked for this class

Adolescence with Dennison. Dennison scares me for some reason. A lot of people in the class seem annoying.

yo what a boring blog post!

SGA Meeting 1/20

First SGA Meeting of the year!!!!!!!

8:05 - Meeting starts

8:13 - We are watching a Webinar about a new website, "discoverED", which is all about finding jobs after college. Pretty cool stuff I guess. The guy is talking to the internet while giving us a guided tour of the website. The future is now! Checkout www.bediscovered.com starting February 2nd! It's run by a SMCM alumn so give him your support I guess?

8:18 - Marlena Weiss was just sworn in as our new Secretary, and Adam Matthai as our new Parliamentarian. Exciting! Marlena is wearing a sweet vest, I am very jealous of it.

8:20 - Bill about SGA covering the cost of Renewable Energy Credits. Boring stuff. But, Sunny brought up the idea of raising student fees and then saving some of the new income for later investment into green intiatives such as solar panels, etc. I think this was a really cool idea.

8:25 - Iben Ricket is staring off into space, but staring off into space right at me, which is making me feel uneasy because her gaze is intimidating. I hope we have a meeting about Publicity soon because they are pretty fun/I love SGA publicity.

8:28 - REC Bill got passed! wooo.

8:30 - Matt Fafoutis is talking about the search for a new President. My suggestions:
-Bush (out of a job now)
-Myself
-Matt Fafoutis :3
-Cal Ripken (my personal favorite option)

8:32 - Nora Olney just told us about the Inauguration Edition of The Nest. Exciting?

8:34 - Jeremy Pevner just spoke in third person

8:40 - blah blah blah

8:44 - blah blah blah

8:45 - Meeting Adjourned

First Day of Classes

Today was the first day of classes. Unlike a lot of people, neither of mine got canceled. WWII in Russian Culture seems pretty interesting, but there is a lot of reading and everyone in the class is obsessed with classic rock. I hope this classic rock fad dies. I liked it in middle school, but I also watched Dragon Ball Z in middle school.

Next class in two hours!

Programming

As an RA I do programming every semester, so I was wondering if you, the reader, had any input as far as programming ideas. Some ideas I was tossing around:

-Bike Race around the island between PG, Caroline and Dorch
-Mocktails, but I worry that people will bring their own non-mock ingredients
-Superbowl Party
-Valentine's Day card making
-Spend all of my funds on Lego and then build them
-Partini (is this game any fun? Caroline just got a copy of it)

Also, my door decorations for this semester are pictures of myself + and army man glued to your door.

RHC Interview

I have my RHC interview in a little less than an hour.

Anyone that comments on this will receive 1$ in the unlikely event that I am selected to be an RHC

Back at SMCM

Guess who's back, back again
Senator Seahawk's back, tell a friend
Guess who's back, guess who's back,
guess who's back, guess who's back,
guess who's back, guess who's back,
guess who's back...

LOL EMINEM

For reals though I am back at SMCM and it is very empty here. I have seen 4 people total.

President Margaret O'Brien Stepping Down

You are hopefully aware at this point that yesterday Maggie announced she would be stepping down from her position of Presidency at SMCM, in favor of working in jolly ol' England doing some exciting sounding work.

I'm not really sure how I feel about this because I only saw Maggie two or three times, and never during the school year. I don't think she was around very often, but it's pretty clear that she did a lot for the school. SMCM's atmosphere has really changed from the Playboy Top Rated Party school of the 80s and early 90s, to a more academically rigorous institution when she ascended the throne in 1996. I don't know if this is completely good or bad, but I'm certain that she did a lot, especially in the area of studying abroad. I think studying abroad gave her a huge boner.

She had a very nice voice and referring to the President as "Maggie" was always fun. So I think I will miss her.

2nd Best Blog

Of course, SMCM LOL BLOG is the best blog on the Internets, but what about the second best?

http://ilovekenbenjes.blogspot.com/

Catherine Skinner has her own blog, often about SMCM, and the address is ilovekenbenjes

<3 br="br">
Catherine doesn't update much but she does have a lot of insight into good ol' Virginny and Calvert Hall.

Juicy Campus

I don't know why, but over winter break Juicy Campus got really nasty. Lots of "_____ is a slut", etc. posts. It seems like it was mostly all by the same people judging by the writing style.

There was one post about guys that are sleazy etc., which I think is pretty cool because it kinda has a positive purpose. And of course Kohlers was mentioned.

January 11th

January 11th is the day I will be back at SMCM. At that point I may start updating again, but probably not until the rest of the campus comes back.

I have seen more SMCM students over this break than during any other, which is exciting!
