SMCM Basketball
Coach was at Door last night, mentioned that there are very tall freshmen coming to the team. Wish I were tall via being short :/. Could fulfill dreams of being in the NBA, slam dunking and playing with the Looney Toons (via making old cartoons relevant). Space Jam is probably one of the finest films of the 90s.

A Mystery Solved!
A mystery came about close to a year ago when a mystery blogger made a blogging blog called SMCMLOLOL which would comment on blog posts that I made, an exegesis of sorts. I never knew who the blogger in question was but I always figured it was Julia Strauss.
FAST FORWARD to several weeks ago. I am out on 'the town' (via going out) somewhere in the Maryland area (I do not recall exactly). Via some means (maybe via SMS???) I am informed that the perpetrator of this blog was in fact Nick Hughes!
Nick Hughes is a long time student of St. Marys, here is a photo of him via recognizing:
As you can tell he is a nice young hipster musician (via horst the band shirt and weird glasses) and a fine young man. Here is another photo:
He also likes facial hair!

Which is the Real Public Safety Car?
I snapped this photo a few months ago of a Public Safety Officer pulling up to a Crown Victoria (that belongs to someone whose name I forgot...but he used to always park out there and he lived in like Boone 7ish).
LOLLL it's like PS writing up PS for a parking violation.

Tuition
Some of yall may have read the Washington Post article about SMCM tuition http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/state-calls-on-st-marys-college-to-examine-high-tuition-rates/2011/05/23/AGuDFIBH_story.html and how the State is mad that our tuition is so high. I think this is the state's plan:
1. Force college to spend more via requiring an increase in benefits
2. Complain that college is raising tuition to pay for these mandates
3. ???
4. Profit!

Church Point: Closed After Dark?
There has recently been some discussion as to whether or not the Point is off limit after dark, mostly as a result of the Class of 2011 Seven Wonders Tour. During this year's tour a couch was burned (despite pleas from Jamie Phillips) which resulted in a nearby tree catching on fire. The reason that the fire was so dangerous was, in my opinion, less because of the couch burning but mostly because of the location. In recent years the Point has been eroding and the water levels in the Chesapeake were very high in May and June, which forced the bonfire to be held on a small patch of sand very close to the trees. Obviously this could have been avoided if the couch hadn't been burned, but if there had been more sand it probably would have been okay.
Anyway, this was obviously a horrible situation and pissed everyone off.
I attended Alumni Weekend a month or so ago and had a great time, but I talked to some people who said that they were trying to hang out at the Point on Friday and Saturday night but were forced away by Public Safety. A week later I heard similar things from others so I decided to ask the new Director of Public Safety Dave Zylak about it.
According to an email from Zylak Church Point is not closed after dark, and the Public Safety officers reported that they had not been asking anyone to leave.
CONFLICTING REPORTS!
So, either people were lying about being told to leave the Point (unlikely), Public Safety officers were lying about what they were doing (possible but unlikely), or real police were telling people to leave (unlikely).
So, we may never have a full understanding of what happened, but we do have confirmation from the Director of Public Safety that the Point is not closed after hours (unless if you are tryna camp there or damage the property or litter). This may clear things up.

Campus Pub to feature a large pile of dirt
Dr. Urgo posted this photo recently of construction going on regarding the Campus Pub.
As you can see there is a large pile of dirt inside. I spent about two minutes trying to determine why there would be a large mound of dirt inside the pub but ultimately I have no idea at all. This should be an interesting feature though for the new pub, although I would have preferred sand via sand castles.
A lot of discussion regarding the pub was what theme the pub should have so I imagine they went with a mining town theme. Hopefully there will be hardhats and authentic workers with the black lung.
