HVAC Closet PSA

Some of yall may have HVAC (heating, ventilation, air, condoms) closets in yer residence halls.  The townhouses have small ones that would be good for housing Harry Potter, but in some of the LQ rooms there are big ones.  They are kinda like big attics.  These HVAC closets are perfect for smoking hookah/weed, drinking 'beer' or sleeping in. 

OR ARE THEY???

It would appear that some 'hoodlums' in LQ got in trouble for chilling (out, maxing, and relaxing all cool via Fresh Prince of Bel Air [pronounced blair]) in their HVAC closets and as punishment were forced to create these PSAs.

It seems to get to the point and is very informative.  I think that JBoard should make more people do this.  For example, if you got in trouble for peeing outside:

What you should not do outside:

• pee
• drink

What you should do in a bathroom:

• pee
• shower

IDK, I'm no JBoard person and I never had to go but I think this is a pretty good suggestion.

PANC!: The Chamber of Secrets has been Opened

PANIC!  It would appear that someone has opened the Chamber of Secrets vis-a-vis Twilight Harry Potter.

Not sure if Caroline Cat has been hurt (vis-a-vis that happened to Filch's cat) but hopefully that cat is okay.

Campus Pub to feature a large pile of dirt

Dr. Urgo posted this photo recently of construction going on regarding the Campus Pub.

As you can see there is a large pile of dirt inside.  I spent about two minutes trying to determine why there would be a large mound of dirt inside the pub but ultimately I have no idea at all.  This should be an interesting feature though for the new pub, although I would have preferred sand via sand castles.

A lot of discussion regarding the pub was what theme the pub should have so I imagine they went with  a mining town theme.  Hopefully there will be hardhats and authentic workers with the black lung.

LQ Eatery

Have yall been to the Lewis Quad Eatery/Pub.  They serve food there!  And sometimes alcohol!  My friends and I were worried about the prices of alcohol, but it's not that bad

• Corona (kinda ew) 1.75
• Heineken (I like this beer because Ken is in the name) 2.50
• Various Sam Adams's 3.00
• Wine 3.00 (Note that a cup of wine is a small cup.  Also apparently the 'glass of wine a day' rule does not apply to pint glasses, but rather only wine glasses')

All the stuff comes from bottles (woo) but they pour it into cups (lame).  There is also food

• Nachos 3.00 and they are delicious
• Nachos with meat 4.50 if you are into that
• Burrito 6.00 these were okay but I'd rather get more nachos

WHAT SHOULD IT BE NAMED?!?!

Last week they had a survey.  I liked 8th Wonder and The Pub.  Someone last week made a fake edit to the SMCM wikipedia regarding the pub and called it The Sloppy Oyster which made my roommates and myself laugh a lot.

Anyway every thursday (including today) there will be alcohol.  Hopefully professors will show up to discuss academic topics/buy us boooze.  

Not much else to say, except that they really need to dim those lights.  Also there is free popcorn.

Campus Pub!

Wooo legal drinking on campus.  The Campus pub, as yall probs know, will be opening up Thursday the 31st.  Some quick facts

• Alcohol (beer and wine in cups) will be served from 4-10 and will be charged via cash
• The beer will come from bottles (not from a tap, le sigh) and then poured into cups.  Pretty lame but I think logistically it's easier for them
• Food will be served until like 1AM
• Food will include stuff like pizza and subs and fries etc.
• Food can be paid with debit or cash
• It's in the LQ Common Room
• Capacity of about 30
• It will be called NAME WITHELD

It's a pretty interesting idea!  Of note is that it is a pilot program, and if professors and staff never come to drink/interact with students it will probably be shut down (just the alcohol aspect, food will continue to be served next year).

What do you guys think about this?  I really like the idea of having a place to meet with professors and hang out with beers and discuss academia.  Hopefully it will survive!

LQ Bathrooms

If you intend to blow a guy in one of the LQ bathrooms on the top floor which have windows that face the main area, and there are dozens of people and PS officers outside, please put down the shades first so that everyone is not able to see.

Shit on the ground

Someone fucking pooped in the LQ Kitchen last night. What the fuck. Here's the email from Joanne Goldwater. I like how she uses the word disappointed, makes me feel like my mom is yelling at me or something.

Dear LQ Residents,

I have just been notified that a Bon Appetit employee showed up to work this morning at the Grab-n-Go to find human feces on the Lewis Quad kitchen floor. She called Public Safety and sanitized the floors and cabinets with bleach and water.

I am quite disappointed about this incident. This is disgusting and unacceptable anywhere on campus, but most especially in a kitchen area used for food preparation.

As a result of this behavior, the LQ kitchen will be closed after Grab-n-Go closes at 2 p.m. for the rest of the semester. Residents can only use the kitchen when RA staff are on-duty at night. We regret that this action is necessary, but it is due to the inexcusable behavior of an unknown person(s).

If you have any information regarding the identification of the person(s) responsible for this behavior, please contact a member of the Residence Life staff or Public Safety. We will reopen the kitchen if the responsible
person(s) comes forward or is identified.

Bald Eagle on Campus

Been seeing a 'bald' eagle on campus lately. Not sure how I feel about this. On the one hand bald eagles like to fight seagulls (long term readers may know how much I fucking hate seagulls with every fibre of my being) and they are pretty and they are an American icon. But on the other hand there are really no negatives to this so I don't know why I wrote it like there would be a negative. Not gonna erase it. Fuck editing.

Saw it Friday morning around 7:30 on the way to class circling LQ. As an LQ senator, if this bald eagle tries to attack us I will destroy it and its terrorism. Some SMUT friends said they saw it on North Fields, and another friend said she saw it attacking a seagull (woot).

What do yall think about 'bald' eagles

• Do they represent the very ethos of St. Mary's?
• What is an ethos?
• Do bald eagles get drunk?
• Would you rather our national bird be the bald eagle or the delicious turkey via Ben Franklin
• Was Ben Franklin our greatest President due to his alcoholism and not actually being a President but getting to be on the 100$ bill?

LQ Runoff Election

LQ has an open slot for senatorizing, Maddie Jackson v. Frank McGough. I tried to vote for myself again but there was no write-in option.

I was talking to Louis Ritzinger, the guy who sets up the elections, and he said I won the election from a week or two ago. Excellent. Didn't really win obviously since I've already been elected.

Vote Frank, he is jolly.

LQ Fire Alarm

It went off at 10:30 this morning. 10:30 is kinda a weird time for a fire alarm to go off, because it's too late to go back to bed (for me and a lot of other people at least), but too early for brunch.

Either way I'm now pretty awake and thankful for it I think. It's too early to think straight.

It's like the third fire alarm we've had in LQ. I am glad the RAs don't make us go all the way to DPC, because it's lame over there.

LQ heat pumps dead

:[ Kelly Smo just sent out an email stating that Lewis Quad heat pumps are not working. Which explains why I am really cold right now. I hope it gets fixed soon!

Woodland Dining

I went for a walk through North Woods today with some friends. I haven't really gone in since my first semester here, but I still could still find my way to the treehouse and fire pit.

However, right behind LQ is this very wondrous setup that someone put together. A table and some chairs, overlooking Vietnam.

It's pretty easy to get there, but I'm not going to explain because it's more fun that way.
