Beach Party

I was browsing The Facebook when I stumbled across these photos of what looks to have been a rad-ass party.  SAND IN THE HOUSE.  Imagine the clean up!

Bros blocked out to protect their identities.  Really awesome party theme.  Reminds me of a story I have been told approximately 69 times...

FLASHBACK

The year is 2006.  The place is the Crescents.  C/O 2008 Ian Murphy told me this story many times.  He and some friends made many trips to the PG and Caroline volleyball courts (back then there were sand courts behind the two residence halls) to collect sand and then dump it in their townhouse.  They repeated this until there were a solid 3 inches of sand.  Then they had a party wherein everyone wore bathing suits/went topless.  I have never seen photographic evidence of said party, but it's nice to see later generations attempting the same sort of thing.

HVAC Closet PSA

Some of yall may have HVAC (heating, ventilation, air, condoms) closets in yer residence halls.  The townhouses have small ones that would be good for housing Harry Potter, but in some of the LQ rooms there are big ones.  They are kinda like big attics.  These HVAC closets are perfect for smoking hookah/weed, drinking 'beer' or sleeping in. 

OR ARE THEY???

It would appear that some 'hoodlums' in LQ got in trouble for chilling (out, maxing, and relaxing all cool via Fresh Prince of Bel Air [pronounced blair]) in their HVAC closets and as punishment were forced to create these PSAs.

It seems to get to the point and is very informative.  I think that JBoard should make more people do this.  For example, if you got in trouble for peeing outside:

What you should not do outside:

• pee
• drink

What you should do in a bathroom:

• pee
• shower

IDK, I'm no JBoard person and I never had to go but I think this is a pretty good suggestion.

An Ode to Maggie O'Brien

Miss u sometimes Maggie O.  Miss ur chill ~nonexistant~ vibes.  Kinda miss those days when seeing the President was a rare event that few got to experience.  Now any bro can chill with the Prez at his open hours, or do something dumb like invite Leslie and he over for dinner in their townhouse.

Missu wine producing prez.  Miss ur wine that apparently was not very good and given out to underage students on the reg.  Most of all, miss u RPG (EDIT: Apparently "it's a large flashlight with a scope made from spare plumbing equipment you dolt" [SUPER-EDIT: It's definitely something military related]) holding prez (see below).

Where is the wine and guns Urgo???  Can we really trust a President that doesn't have wine and guns???  Isn't the liberal arts education/Faulkner all about wine and guns???

Wonder what she is up to now?  I think she is chillin over in Oxford via heading the Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Studies.  I remember this annoyed some facultybros, not sure what the current situation is though.

Apparently everyone was into her for the first half of her being here (via honeymoon syndrome).  Also she really changed the ~vibes~ of the school into being more srs and academic (apparently) which is cool I guess.  Also she was a really good fundraiser, which is probs why she was never around.

I think ultimately, (13) thirteen years is too long for any prez to be around.  Maybe there should be a limit of like a decade or so.  People get burnt out, stop caring as much, etc.  But I dunno.

Which is the Real Public Safety Car?

I snapped this photo a few months ago of a Public Safety Officer pulling up to a Crown Victoria (that belongs to someone whose name I forgot...but he used to always park out there and he lived in like Boone 7ish).

LOLLL it's like PS writing up PS for a parking violation.

Electric Bill

What were yalls electric bills?  51.87 here.  Dunno if that is a lot or a little.  Don't feel like we used a lot of electricity.

MOLD PANIC

Lot of yall (especially on the Greens) have probably heard about the mold epidemic.  Mold be sporing everybody up in here (via that bedroom intruder autotune youtube sensation).  Mold invaded Boone 4 and forced them all to move out (dunno where to, maybe they are living under a bridge like a troll, or hopefully just crashing on a friend's couch) and maintenance/other dudes have been working on it nonstop for days.

These townhouses were constructed in 1992 as I recall, kinda lame that they are succumbing to MOLD.  Low bid contracting FTW.

Also just heard that Maggie 8/7 (the one on top) with Ally Moore has mold.  Probably some other places have mold.  Was anyone else freaked out by that lady wearing the mask coming into everyone's home like....should I also be wearing a mask (via protection)???

Hope I don't have to move out, it is getting cold and I would not have much time to construct a log cabin/hobbit hole in North Woods.

Some of the mold appears to have been caused by shoddy HVAC construction practices, but I don't know much about HVAC to be honest, just kinda looked like that via pipes that did not reach holes, but rather leaked onto the floor of the HVAC closet.

Will mold turn us into zombies?  Kinda hope not, enjoy eating burritos and not people.

Guess mold isn't all bad though, via making beer and cheese, two glorious inventions.

PANIC.

1 Month

This Saturday will mark the one month anniversary of me being back on campus. I totally forgot about this blog but when I was at the SGA meeting I remembered it. So...

In coming weeks I will be live-blogging the SGA meetings. At the 9/16 meeting there was some cool stuff

But more importantly some new information about building progress. I've seen this presentation like 3 times now, but this time there was some new info!

Okay so most everyone has heard about the plans for the Amphitheater between Monty and Schaefer right? And like most people, I thought it would be one of those Roman amphitheaters with the rows of seats in a clam shape? But really it's very SMCM with lots of green space, the Big tree near Schaefer will remain, and the new space is a lot nicer than that fucking ridiculous pillow mound of earth that is currently there. So wait until you see drawings of the plans before you pass judgment. I'm trying to get some of the drawings so that I can post them here.

Other ideas for building include:

-Second Pier next to the original
-Walkway across Rt. 5 into a New building that takes the place of demolished Anne Arrundel and Maggie Brent.
-Musical center/lecture hall possibly on the field that are connected to the Crescents. At first I was surprised by this, but this would leave half of the field empty to become a Green Space, much like The Greens for the other townhouses.


Another issue brought up was rising tuition costs and how the students feel about it. Rodkey brought up a key issue that I thought was important, that rising costs really change the feel of SMCM. Personally I feel that as tuition rises, bros/yuppies increase and hippies decrease. And regardless of how you feel about either, such a change in the ratio really affects the feel of SMCM. Personally I look at SMCM and think of affordable, small, and public, all of which change as tuition increases. Obviously there need to be some increases what with inflation and all, but I think they need to consider the broader impact that such changes create.
