ALUMNI WEEKEND 2013 RECAP
wow what a weekend! despite all the rain it was an amazing time.
yes yes, I did eventually 'give up' on liveblogging but only because I still have AT&T and still don't get reception down in Historic St. Mary's city.
but here are some highlights
yes yes, I did eventually 'give up' on liveblogging but only because I still have AT&T and still don't get reception down in Historic St. Mary's city.
but here are some highlights
- Admissions is using the "I am St. Mary's" slogan these days which is kinda interesting
- ate some crabs
- slept in a bed BOTH NIGHTS which is an improvement from previous years when sleeping locations included a bench, random boat, bridge, professor's office in Monty, floors
- Dave Chase was kinda mean
- Ben and I secretly hopped into the back of a Gator Cart (probably sold to the school by Paul Schulteis?) and laid down while the cart went all around campus and did some donuts in the grass (via now that URGO is gone [more like, URGONE] people can drive/park on the grass) and it was like being on a roller coaster
- Someone told me that they drank 50 beers which is kinda scary but also impressive
- Taught a lot of people what 'turnt up' means
- Probably bullied too many people
- Danced with older women
- Swam
- My entire body is incredibly sore
But you know probably my favorite memory is this. I was swimming on Saturday and didn't know what to do with my phone, so I found a random person and asked him to hold onto my nice phone (Galaxy S3) and to return it to LQ16 if I did not see him again. And you know what, Saturday night I'm playing some ledger and that dude walks in with my phone. Really made me appreciate the sort of people that St. Mary's has helped to develop.
also still hungover

Alumni Weekend
Wow yall alumni weekend in like three days...planning on leaving 'twerk' (that is what c00l kids call work) around 2:30 and then getting some 'mexican food' (aka Margaritas #its5oclocksomewhere) with some friends.
Kinda wanted to go to Cerro Grande but....apparently it's been closed
Luckily there are a bunch of new 'mexican' restaurants around these days #phew (more on that another time)
ANYWAY
I got a 'smart phone' now and I've been thinking about 'liveblogging' Alumni Weekend, and I would like some input from yall regarding what I should 'liveblog' about.
Here are some possible ideas:

Here are some possible ideas:
- People that I see
- Interactions with faculty/staff
- Reviews of the various events
- Stories from talking with old people
- A running total of the number of people I see that I have hooked up with
- SGA Reunion
- IDK other things

Alumni Weekend 2013 - June 7-9
Alumni Weekend is approaching! Signups opened up for alumni who have donated (there is no threshold for the donation amount, so consider donating the cost of a few drinks at some point; it also "makes the school look better" to have a lot of donation participation), but if you are not a part of the 1% and failed to donate then you will have to wait.
But, I guess I could ~share the wealth~ and show yall the....LOGO
WOW what a pretty and cool logo! It has a sailboat! Because people at St. Mary's like to sail! For real tho I really dig the logo, and the slogan is nice too! But nothing compares to the logo from last year (via it has a frisbee)

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE
As you can see, Shuttle Service to the Green Door is still being provided this year but for the EXORBITANT COST OF $7 WHICH IS $2 MORE THAN LAST YEAR. Actually this is kinda cool. Last year the bracelets sold out, so now they are raising the price due to the increased demand. ECONOMICS! But, look a little more closely...
When exactly is this shuttle? Friday or Saturday? Did some intern make this? Or could it have been newly hired Assistant director of Alumni Relations Larry Mac(Irish)Curtain.
He is good at cleaning, but is he good at creating registrations that make sense ???
Do yall wanna see the all the EXCITING REGISTRATION OPTIONS ??? Click below to read more...

Alumni Weekend Swag
Apparently the first 500 alumni to register for alumni weekend will get this awesome coozy for holding soda keystone light. Looks pretty rad. Are yall comin down to alumni weekend??? Kinda bummed/confused that they banned camping. Not really sure about the rationale. On-campus housing sold out, so it isn't taking money away from that. So IDK. Guess I am gonna sleep in my car/on that bridge the The Greens (great place to sleep btw, the frogs/toads lull you to sleepytown).

Church Point: Closed After Dark?
There has recently been some discussion as to whether or not the Point is off limit after dark, mostly as a result of the Class of 2011 Seven Wonders Tour. During this year's tour a couch was burned (despite pleas from Jamie Phillips) which resulted in a nearby tree catching on fire. The reason that the fire was so dangerous was, in my opinion, less because of the couch burning but mostly because of the location. In recent years the Point has been eroding and the water levels in the Chesapeake were very high in May and June, which forced the bonfire to be held on a small patch of sand very close to the trees. Obviously this could have been avoided if the couch hadn't been burned, but if there had been more sand it probably would have been okay.
Anyway, this was obviously a horrible situation and pissed everyone off.
I attended Alumni Weekend a month or so ago and had a great time, but I talked to some people who said that they were trying to hang out at the Point on Friday and Saturday night but were forced away by Public Safety. A week later I heard similar things from others so I decided to ask the new Director of Public Safety Dave Zylak about it.
According to an email from Zylak Church Point is not closed after dark, and the Public Safety officers reported that they had not been asking anyone to leave.
CONFLICTING REPORTS!
So, either people were lying about being told to leave the Point (unlikely), Public Safety officers were lying about what they were doing (possible but unlikely), or real police were telling people to leave (unlikely).
So, we may never have a full understanding of what happened, but we do have confirmation from the Director of Public Safety that the Point is not closed after hours (unless if you are tryna camp there or damage the property or litter). This may clear things up.
