People Sleeping in the Library

People seem to like to sleep in the library a lot.  This is something I never managed to do because I had a bed/room less than five minutes away.  Sleeping in the Library does not seem that enjoyable to me, but I guess some people have managed to figure out a good way to sleep there.

And some people come to the Library prepared!

PANIC: Ron Paul Flyers on Campus

Took a stroll around campus today and saw an interesting sight:  RON PAUL POSTERS.  I don't really like Ron Paul.  I would go as far as saying that I dislike Paul more than Romney, but not as much as I dislike Santorum.  Reagan of course I dislike more than all of them combined.  Anyway here are a few pictures of the photos thanks to Katie Caffey and Shannon V.

Outside the library

Up around the Campus Center

And on Goodpastor

What was kinda troubling is that some students were tearing down the posters at the Campus Center.  Like I said, I greatly dislike Ron Paul (except for his ability to deliver babies, which is cute) but tearing down posters is shitty for a number of reasons:
  • Someone took the time to put up that poster
  • Taking down a poster because you disagree with it is shitty
  • Taking down a poster of a differing political ideology is shitty
  • It's shitty
It's not part of the St. Mary's Way to tear down someone's posters.  Tearing down someone's posters is not engaging in Civil Discourse.  If you want to express your opinion, make a poster about why Ron Paul is horrible (via racism, wants to cut government spending for poor people, is a libertarian, etc.) and put that next to these.  Tearing down someone's poster that you disagree with just makes you look like you can't handle other people's opinions and want to oppress their ideas.  I am sure that Republicans on campus already feel ostracized, and this is just making that worse.

Am I right or am I way off here?

EDIT:  I regret this post via ron paul debates

Swings

Whenever I see an image of the swingset outside the library I am filled with emotion and nostalgia and memories.

A really pure area, devoid of stress or worry.  The only issue is which swing you want to use.  And it's right outside the library, so when life/school seems impossible it is always there waiting for you to relax and swing.

Overlooking the pond and river, you can always see beautiful sunsets and people walking along the path near QA or on Route 5. I can vividly recall at least a dozen meaningful conversations I had there.

Even though it is really simple and I only spent a few hours of my life there, I think it is something that I will always think about when I need to escape the real world for a moment and focus on something simple and rhythmic, something that makes sense.

Call for a good time

Don't really remember where this image came from to be honest:

It was probably in a bathroom, maybe in the library or Baltimore Hall.  Not sure whose number it is, slightly tempted to call it.

FREE PIZZA ALERT 2/15

Do yall love pizza?  Come to DPC TODAY from 3 until 9 for pizza and to learn about closing procedures and take a boring survey.  It's hosted by ResLife!

Also, last night I came home from the Door and went into the library with my box of pizza (via I had to watch a movie for class) and I felt lots of eyes staring at me.  I'm not sure if they were staring at me with judgement (via Door pizza box) or because they wanted my pizza, but the whole process was a good decision.  Atomic Cafe was a pretty interesting movie, I would recommend watching it!

New Carpets in the Library

Library got new carpet!  I generally avoid the library (via avoiding work) so I only knew about this since I had to go to the faculty senate meeting this week (which is held in the library in a fancy room on the 2nd floor).  Library has a weird smell now, but the carpet is pretty.

Hope no one spills coffee/liquor on it.

Britain

Some kids in the library are using the phrase "on the daily."  Not really sure what it means but I like it.  Apparently it's a British term.  Not sure how I feel about British phrases (via can we really trust Britain, they used to own us).  Probably gonna start using this term though.

PANIC! Ghosts in the Library

Heard rumors the other day as you may remember (via reading old bloggery posts) that I heard rumors of a….ghost in the library.  Turns out these rumors are full of truth!

I commissioned Dave Corderman and (Hurricane) Katrina Rigby to capture a photo of this mysterious entity, and they were very successful.  It appears that the ghost is saying “!OOB”.  Not really sure what OOB means, maybe it is some foreign ghost language.  Also of note are two bats above the ghost…not sure how I feel about bats in the library, feel like they are not very conducive for studying.  Hopefully library staff can train these bats to return books after they have been checked out, that would be kinda cool.
PS has anyone seen the discus man?  Seems like he disappeared as soon as this ghost appeared…maybe the ghost killed discuss man?  Can ghosts kill?  Should we…PANIC!?

GHOSTS

Apparently there is a GHOST in the library.  The discus man has been dressed up as a ghost.  Can someone take a photo of him for me, I will buy you a gord from the Daily Grind.

I realize that it is impossible to take photos of ghosts, but since this is a fake ghost it may work.

Speaking of ghosts, did anyone play ghost in the graveyard as a kid?  Feel like that would be a real fun game to play on the greens.

Rules:  One kid runs away and hides as the ghost.  The other kids stay at based and count from 1 oclock to midnight.  Then they go look for the ghost.  When someone spots the ghost they yell PANIC GHOST IN THE GRAVEYARD then run away to base as the ghost tries to get someone.

4 Cups

Some kid here in the library has 4 cups of coffee.  Wat.

He is never gonna sleep (via caffeine)

UPDATE:  Some girl just asked the kid for his sweater because she was cold.  He declined because he had nothing on underneath.  Also the girl was wearing a really light tanktop. Dunno what she was thinking going into the library w/o full winter gear on, it's always freezing in here.

In the Library without a shirt

Sitting in the library study room with friends not wearing a shirt because it is ungodly hot in here. A girl just walked by and definitely started slowing down. Is this legal?

EDIT: One of these people was Allison Teta!

I'm in the Library

Putting a Santa hat on the discus man is probably the coolest thing I have seen in the library. Speaking of the library, I am in it right now. I am writing my last paper of the semester, and I still have twenty -four hours. At 9 pages that means I only need to write one third of a page per hour. This leaves a lot of time to procrastinate which is good.

The other image is a clue as to where I am. The first person to find me will get something from the Grind for free. You will also receive eternal glory.

Edit: No one has come to visit me yet. Also the girl near me just smelled her scarf for some reason.

New Hobby

I have a new hobby. I tried to come up with a clever name for it, but instead I decided to call it Go into the library during finals and bother as many people as you can. It's not as insidious or horrible as it sounds. I just go into the library and walk around looking for people I know and talk to them for a minute, distracting them from whatever it is they are working on. It's a good study break. My current record is five, but I am planning to break that today hopefully.

Library

I was in the Library last Sunday from 11-7, which may not seem like a lot to some of you library rats, but for me it was an experience.  I found myself liking the library a lot, so I think I will hang out there more next semester to do work and such.

Also, I like that our library is called "Library", whereas every other college has libraries named after people.
