Urgo Exercises, Just Like Everyone Else

Was on the facingbook earlier today instead of doing homework when I noticed a creepy status update by his stalker

Seems like she is in love with the Prezzy???  Glad to see that Urgo has mastered the elliptical machine in the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics and Recreation Center, as it is something that has always confused me.  I've tried and continually felt like I was going to fall off, so I went back to the stationary bikes.

Diggin' that he is using a low-impact exercise in order to reduce his risk of injury.

Also enjoying that he watches the Colbert Report via liberal values.

Also enjoying that people make status updates about him when they see him, and then people make blog posts about seeing those people make status updates.

Mark Twain Lecture this Friday!

This Friday is the Mark Twain Lecture!  Last year was a really awesome event, and this one should be also awesome.  Come to the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics and Recreation Center at 8 to see senior black correspondent Larry Wilmore (via the Daily Show) talk about Twain!

Oh wow what a cool video that is up right above this text!  Behold the future, wherein I can put a video on my bloggerin thing.  Anyway Larry Wilmore is a funny dude.  Probably not as funny as Mark Twain but w/e, he is alive and Twain isn't so he wins in that regard.

Anyways yall should check it out.  You might get to see this celebrity IRL in SOMD at SMCM OMGWTFBBQ.

Women's Only Hours in the MPOARC

A week or so ago a survey was sent out regarding the idea of having "Women's Only Fitness Center Hours".  What do yall think about this?  The fitness center is...the place with the bikes and treadmills right, not the weightroom.  I think it's kind of a weird idea to be honest.  But then again I'm also a guy and when I go to the Fitness Room I really only see women there anyway for the most part.

Googlin' the topic, it seems like a lot of nice gyms have women-only fitness rooms, but I think that our facility is probably too small for such a thing.  I also sortof think it divides the campus maybe?  And who makes the call regarding who is a woman, where to trans people fall, or people who identify as female regardless of their body?

What do yall think?

Seahawk Basketball!

First game tonight against Hopkins.  Expect to hear chants of 'SAFETY SCHOOL' (via Hopkins is a difficult school to get into so it's sarcastic).  Should be exciting!  Make it out to the game if you can!

7:30 in the ARC!

DUMBBELLS STOLEN

Recently a pair of twenty-five and forty-five pound dumbbells were stolen from the Fitness Center.  Who could have stolen them???  Today I will try to solve this mystery.

These weights are pretty heavy, therefore it was someone strong.  Football players are very strong, therefore I believe that a football player stole the equipment.  Granted, we don't have a football team (at the moment) but I still believe this is the best theory.

In addition, how did something like this happen?  How did someone smuggle out all these weights?  Did the fitness center supervisor (student who sits at that tall chair looking bored/checking out burly dudes) allow this to happen?  Can we trust Michael P O'Brien ARC employees?

Recently Claire Solinsky, and ARC employee, stated that this was 'not her fault', however I do know that Claire also takes many labs and has drank 'Rikaloff'.

Can we trust people who play take 'hard lab courses' and drink the Rikaloff?  Can we trust Tom Seahawk (via participating in the latter and arguably more difficult activity)???  What is more difficult, Rikaloff or orgo lab?

All I'm saying is that dumbbells were never stolen under the Maggie administration, can we really trust Joe Urgo (who I will now refer to as Jurgo)???

DID FAULKNER SCHOLAR DR. JOSEPH URGO STEAL THESE DUMBBELLS (via getting 'mad ripped' to impress/intimidate students and professors)?

Email from Larry Vote:

Dear Campus Community:

On Saturday February 20, 2010 the Athletics and Recreation Center was officially named the Michael P. O’Brien Athletics and Recreation Center. When referring to the ARC in emails, newsletters, web site postings, announcements, flyers, and all other forms of correspondence, please remember to refer to the ARC by its new official title. For those of you who have already been doing this, I thank you.

Larry Vote,

Acting President/Provost

Not likely. Saying 'The ARC' is just a lot easier. But I guess it makes sense to refer to it as such in emails and the like. I wonder when someone is going to buy/sponsor our library. I hope it's Sheetz. Then we can say stuff like 'yo I'm heading to Sheetz to study'.

Michael P. O’Brien Athletics and Recreation Center

The ARC is going to be renamed the
Michael P. O’Brien Athletics and Recreation Center. I think this is kinda lame, but also not really a big deal. I kinda liked how the ARC was just the ARC, much like how our Library is just Library.
O'Brien seems like an okay guy, and apparently he went here before it was a college, and then he went to UMD. So that is cool how it's getting named after an alumnus. But he is a real estate realtor which is lame. I think it'll just still be called the ARC though. But maybe in like emails about the Basketball team they'll say "Basketball game in the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics and Recreation Center", and then everyone is going to be like, wait when did that happen/who is he.

I don't know why they didn't give it a name when they first opened it.

Tom Fisher has redeemed himself

Yo check out the new group fitness schedule:

Every week day Yoga from 12-1

Tuesday and Thursday motherfucking aquaaerobics from 6-7

AND THEN extra yoga on wednesdays from 5-6

Oh and Swing Dance right after that from 6-7 on wednesdays.

This is a legit schedule. I think I will try to go to Yoga more this year cause it'll be available more often.

Smell in the Arc

Goddamit Tom Fisher. First you limit the amount that I can play noon time hoops, and now you are making the Arc smell bad! This greatly affects my ability to play noon time hoops because I cannot play at 110% when there is a bad smell.

At least the floors have been redone which is probably really cool but they already seemed to be in good condition.

Also I really like Tom Fisher's email signature, it's just Tom Fisher in big blue lettering.

I love you Tom, I hope to one day meet you/I have probably met you but don't remember what you look like.

New ARC Hours

I don't know the full specifics, but ARC hours are being severely cut. I was talking to a employee there a few hours ago, and he said that they were going to have a meeting about it soon.

Just now I am learning that apparently the ARC will close weeknights at 9, as opposed to 11, and as early as 7 on the weekends. Other facilities like the climbing wall, pool, etc. are all having their hours of operation reduced as well.

I think that 9 is way too early to close, and that this is all pretty lame.
